Dr. Robert Duke is currently the Marlene and Morton Meyerson Centennial Professor and Head of Music and Human Learning at the University of Texas at Austin. There, he is also recognized as a University of Texas System Distinguished Teaching Professor, Elizabeth Shatto Massey Distinguished Fellow in Teacher Education, and serves as the Director of the Center for Music Learning in the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music. In addition, he is a clinical professor for the Dell Medical School (UT Austin) and was the founding director of the psychology of learning program for the Colburn Conservatory of Music (Los Angeles).
Dr. Duke is known for encouraging educational practices which are rooted in scientific study; educators must employ strategies which are proven to positively affect the brain’s development. “Intelligent Music Teaching” is a collection of Professor Duke’s essays which describe “fundamental principles of human learning in the context of teaching music.”
